I’m one of those people who likes to make the most out of every travel day, often coming back from vacations more tired than before. With limited time in New York City, I designed a day packed with activities that turned out to be perfect!

Starting in Central Park at 9 a.m., we rented bikes for 1.5 hours from a local shop through GetYourGuide (this can save you a few minutes of waiting). The bikes were fantastic, and we set off to explore Central Park. We cycled almost the entire park in an hour, and by accident, we ended up exiting in a different spot. Before we knew it, we were cycling right in the middle of Times Square! It was quite a surprise to see that Times Square has bike lanes.

Finding our way back to the shop was a bit challenging since I’m not great with maps, but we managed. After returning the bikes, we wandered around the area, passing by the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), although we didn’t go in since time was short. We visited Times Square again and then headed to Bryant Park. This park has stalls offering food and beverages and plenty of chairs, tables and grass—a perfect spot to rest for a few minutes or have lunch.

Next, we visited the New York Public Library, which is just on the other side of Bryant Park. A couple of hundred meters away, we found the famous Grand Central Terminal, where we took the subway to Queens to collect our bags and head to our next stop: the Financial District in Lower Manhattan.

Arriving at New York City Hall, in lower Manhattan it was impossible not to be impressed by the One World Trade Center, standing tall and magnificent. Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to visit the 9/11 Memorial that same day, but another highlight of the trip was waiting for us: a boat tour to the Statue of Liberty at sunset (book it here in advance as it gets full pretty quick).

We didn’t cross the Brooklyn Bridge on this day, but we walked below it to the pier where our boat was waiting (it’s worth getting boat tickets in advance). Words can’t describe the experience—it wasn’t the perfect sunset because it was cloudy, but it was magical. Watching the city skyline from the boat as the buildings’ lights started to turn on, and of course, seeing the Statue of Liberty (another testament to the European legacy), was absolutely stunning.

And that was it, the perfect day in New York City!

Um Dia Perfeito em Nova Iorque: Passear de Bicicleta, Andar pela cidade e Cruzeiro ao Pôr do Sol

Sou uma daquelas pessoas que gosta de aproveitar ao máximo cada dia de viagem, muitas vezes voltando das férias mais cansada do que antes de ir. Com o tempo limitado em Nova Iorque, planeei um dia cheio de atividades que acabou por ser perfeito.

Começando no Central Park às 9 da manhã, alugámos bicicletas por 1,5 horas numa loja local através do GetYourGuide (o que pode poupar alguns minutos de espera). As bicicletas eram fantásticas, e partimos para explorar o Central Park. Percorremos quase todo o parque em uma hora e, por acidente, acabámos por sair numa saída diferente da que tínamos entrado. Antes de dar conta, estávamos a pedalar bem no meio da Times Square. Foi uma grande surpresa perceber que é possível andar de bicicleta an movimentada Times Square (em ciclovias próprias).

Encontrar o caminho de volta para a loja foi um pouco desafiador, já que orientação com mapas não é o meu forte, mas conseguimos. Depois de devolver as bicicletas, passeámos pela área, passando pelo Museu de Arte Moderna (MoMA), embora não tenhamos entrado por falta de tempo. Visitámos a Times Square novamente e depois fomos para o Bryant Park. Este parque tem barracas de comida e bebidas e muitas cadeiras, mesas e relva, um lugar perfeito para descansar por alguns minutos ou almoçar.

Em seguida, visitámos a Biblioteca Pública de Nova Iorque, que fica do outro lado do Bryant Park. A alguns metros de distância, encontramos o Grand Central Terminal (o famoso terminal de comboio e metro), onde seguimos no metro para o Queens para ir buscar as nossas malas e seguir para nossa próxima paragem: o Distrito Financeiro no Lower Manhattan.

Ao chegar à Câmara de Nova Iorque, em Lower Manhattan, foi impossível não ficar impressionado com o One World Trade Center, alto e magnífico. Não visitámos o Memorial do 11 de Setembro nesse dia, pois outro ponto alto da viagem nos esperava: um passeio de barco até a Estátua da Liberdade ao pôr do sol.

Não cruzámos a Ponte do Brooklyn nesse dia, mas caminhamos por baixo dela até ao cais onde estava o barco (vale a pena comprar os bilhetes do barco com antecedência aqui). Não há palavras para descrever a experiência; não foi o pôr do sol perfeito porque estava nublado, mas foi mágico. Ver o horizonte da cidade do barco enquanto as luzes dos prédios começavam a acender, e claro, ver a Estátua da Liberdade (outro testemunho da relação europeia com a cidade), foi absolutamente deslumbrante.

E foi isso, o dia perfeito em Nova York!
